Marc specialises in party representation in front of decision-making bodies of international sports federations, in particular in disciplinary and ethics proceedings, as well as in front of the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Marc is equally specialised in the drafting of sports regulations and in governance matters of sports federations. Marc has a vast experience and knowledge of all FIFA regulations and processes, a clear understanding of the sports pyramidal structure and organization and of all the political and economic aspects of the sports industry.
Before founding Kleiner & Cavaliero, Marc worked with the Legal Affairs Division of FIFA (Legal and Integrity).
Marc acted as Head of the FIFA Disciplinary Department for six years (2011 – 2017). In this role and as Secretary to the FIFA Disciplinary and Appeal Committee, Marc was responsible for all investigations into breaches of FIFA Regulations, infringements related to international transfer of players, match incidents, failure to comply with FIFA or CAS decisions (enforcement procedure), doping, match manipulation, third party ownership and other compliance and good governance issues.
In addition, Marc also acted as Secretary to the FIFA Ethics Committee between 2011 and 2015 and was responsible for the supervision of all ethics-related proceedings.
As such, Marc oversaw the submission of all cases to the three FIFA judicial bodies.
During this period, Marc directed the defence of all decisions of FIFA judicial bodies challenged before the Court of Arbitration of Sport.
Between September 2008 and March 2011, Marc worked as Legal Counsel and Senior Group Leader in the FIFA Players' Status Department with a specialisation in dispute resolution. As such, Marc was in charge of handling all employment-related disputes, disputes related to solidarity contribution, training compensation and international transfers.
Marc obtained his Law Degree from the University of Geneva, Switzerland in 2003 and was admitted to the Bar in 2007. Marc also holds a Master Degree (LL.M.) in International Sports Law from the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economia in Madrid, Spain, awarded with honours in 2008.
In addition to act as lecturer in various sports-law related courses and Master Programmes and for several football organisations. Marc regularly publishes academic articles in international sports law.
Marc is an independent member of the UCI Ethics Committee.
